Political Links
I am politically homeless. Democrats think I'm an anachronistic conservative gun-nut,
and Republicans think I'm an unpatriotic pinko atheist. I guess the closest
ideological platform to my personal views is that of the
libertarians. But I think our biggest problem with government today is
the need people have to align with one party or the other. Changing opinion
for the sake of agreement with others rather than on the basis of reason is
infantile, as far as I'm concerned.
That said, I think government does a lousy job, at pretty much everything it tries
to do. Except employing politicians.
"Giving money and power to politicians is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys" - P.J. O'Rourke, Parliament of Whores
I am, in case you care:
- Against the current (anti-)drug laws, though I have no desire to use drugs
- In favor of allowing parents to choose the school their tax money supports, even
if that's a religious school, though I have no children and no religion
- In favor of gun rights, though I have no desire to hunt
- In favor of right-to-work laws, though my industry isn't heavily unionized
- Against laws restricting abortion or other reproductive rights, though I have no uterus
If none of that irritates you, let me know - I'm sure we can come up with something.
Anyway, you can see how neither side of the political spectrum would rush to claim
me as a spokesperson. Here are some politically-oriented sites I have found
interesting stuff on:
Project Vote-Smart
Useful info on elected officials and candidates, including contact info, voting record, answers to issue questionnaires, and who they take money from
Cato Institute
Libertarian think-tank, lots of archived articles on free-market and individual-freedom views and policy
Forfeiture Endangers American Rights
Group opposes punitive civil forfeiture of property in the name of crime-fighting
Libertarian Party
Take the world's smallest political quiz on their site
The U.S. Constitution
Tell your congressional delegation to read it. Or, better, have someone read it to them
