My new motorcyle

I picked up my new Yamaha FJR1300 on July 27, after ordering it on March 9 through Yamaha's Priority Delivery Program. What a long wait almost-5 months! But worth it. This is the first new vehicle I've owned.

I've had a Yamaha FJ1200 for twelve years or so now, and it's been a great bike. Two years ago Yamaha came out with the FJR1300 but only released it for sale in Europe and Australia. There was a huge petition drive to get the FJR sold here, which eventually got Yamaha to take orders earlier this year for the first batch of 2003 FJRs. They expected to sell around 600 but sold 1700 or so - enough so that there won't be any available in showrooms until next year.

One of the goodies I purchased while waiting for my new bike is a GPS V by Garmin.

Among other useful things, it can track my rides in a format downloadable to the Delorme Street Atlas software I use. Here's a map of one of my first rides (click that for a larger image).

Here's a (lousy) picture of my new bike on Rt.97 in New York overlooking the Delaware River far below.

Here's another shot showing the road. It's fun but the fun part is just too short.

This is the FJR at High Point, NJ - you may guess from the name that it's the highest point in NJ. At 1700 feet, though, no oxygen or high-altitude cooking instructions are necessary. If it hadn't been such a hazy and humid day, you'd be able to see Port Jervis, NY and some of the Adirondacks in the background.

To keep this page from becoming too big, here's some links to other pictures:
